Tomasz Wenklar MANY FACES

Tomasz Wenklar is a sculptor and one of the most recognizable artists of his generation. He is the author of monumental assumptions, outdoor sculptures, tombstone sculptures, commemorative plaques and statuettes. He has participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions. In his work, he uses a variety of materials – among other things stone, wood, clay, bronze - which brings intriguing aesthetic effects. His artistic realizations can be seen in the public space of many cities.

Interestingly, on the streets of Czeladź, we can find three art objects by Tomasz Wenklar. These are: a bust of Tadeusz Kościuszko in the park named after him, a portrait sculpture of Wojciech Kilar and a memorial plaque to the Cursed Soldiers.

He says about the genre of art he cultivates as follows: “Sculpture is a duel of fencers. You look at someone else's creation and admire the cuts. They are as unique as fingerprints." The exhibition "Many Faces" is a truly emblematic example of this observation.

Due to epidemic reasons, Tomasz Wenklar's works could be viewed "virtually" on the Elektrownia Contemporary Art Gallery website this spring. From September 1, we present them in a real exhibition space, which cannot be overestimated in the perception of spatial art, which is sculpture. The exhibition is the fruit of the artist's fascination with the multitude - the eponymous faces of people from the world of broadly understood history and culture. We will find, among others busts and bas-reliefs depicting such figures as Stefan Batory, Ignacy Paderewski, Stanisław Moniuszko, Józef Piłsudski, Wojciech Kilar, Jimi Hendrix, Ryszard Riedel. A separate theme is the religious theme with the representations of St. John Paul II or St. Teresa of Calcutta.

The exhibition will be on display at the Elektrownia Contemporary Art Gallery from September 1 to October 2, Monday to Friday from 9.00-17.00.
